I did not need to read far into the chapter on Freedom in The Prophet by Khalil Gibran before this hit me between the eyes: “…you can only be free when even the desire of seeking freedom becomes a harness to you, and when you cease to speak of freedom as a goal and a fulfilment.”
For as long as we can remember, we all regarded freedom as the opposite of slavery. We were either slaves or slave masters.
It is only with recent events that we realised that this illusion of freedom we had has different layers, and we got stuck in some of these layers and identified our shackles as freedom.
Freedom is not a goal. Freedom is a given.
I am not sure whether any of us even understand the extent and the responsibility of the freedom that we now have, while we still fight off the remnants of the last enslavement of humanity.
Think about it.
