How deep is your faith

How deep is your faith?

It is one thing to say “I have faith” and it is another thing to truly have an unshakable faith.

I read this in The Book of Q or The Gospel of Thomas:

“After Jesus said these things, he went into Capernaum. And a centurion [Roman army officer in charge of 100 soldiers], when he heard about Jesus, came to him begging him, “My servant is lying paralyzed at home about to die.” Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.” The centurion answered him, “Sir, I am not worthy to have you enter my home. Just say the word and my servant will be healed. For I am a man under orders, with soldiers under me. I say to one ‘Go,’ and he goes; to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

When Jesus heard this he was amazed and said to those who were following him, “I tell you, I have not found such confidence in Israel.” And he said to the centurion, “Go.” And when the centurion returned home, he found the servant well.”

I have had a tenuous relationship with Jesus all my life, because so many things did not add up for me.  I have read proof that Jesus is an archetype that occurs in at least fifteen different cultures, and therefore the person can be real.  I have also read that Jesus was real, did not die on the cross, got married to Mary Magdalene and had three children with her, and eventually divorced her and lived until at least the age of seventy, when he was last seen.  None of this is in the Bible.

Since discovering The Book of Q or The Gospel of Thomas and reading the background to the book, I realised that the important issue is not the existence of Jesus or any details about his life.  What is important is the message in the book.

Do I believe the message in The Book of Q or The Gospel of Thomas?  Well, so far, I have only read one wisdom after another.  This wisdom resonates with me, and I can accept it as truth on all levels.

If you replace the word Jesus with the word God in the paragraph, it still makes complete sense.  What the paragraph then says to me is that God is the ultimate Healer, and with faith in our Creator, everything can be healed. We do not need to see God.  We simply need to feel and experience the workings of God in our own lives every day.

There is the adage: For those who believe, no proof is necessary.  For those who do not believe, no proof will ever be enough.

This belief is not a naïve, childlike cop-out.  The belief is based on the comprehension that we live in an illusion and nothing around us is real.  On the other hand, what is inside of us is very real and the basis of our existence.

I find myself more and more often in situations where this strong faith in God results in healing, not just for my client, but also for myself.

We live in a very special time.
