The Báb is the person who prepared the way for the founder of the Baha'i faith, Bahá'u'lláh.

The Báb called upon people to purify themselves for the coming of the day of God, much like John the Baptist did in

the days of Jesus.

The Báb was born on 20th October 1819.

The Báb founded an independent religion and claimed to be equal to Moses, Jesus and Mohammed.

There are many similarities between the lives of Jesus and the Báb.

Both were humble people. They both condemned the corruption in religious and secular society.  Both were a thorn in the flesh of the religious authorities and were publicly interrogated. Both went first in triumph and then in suffering through the streets of the cities where they were killed. Both were suspended in front of a crowd and then put to death. Both comforted another person who was to die with them.

The one major difference is that almost nothing is known about the circumstance around the birth of the Báb.

On the birthday of the Báb the Bahá'ís do not go to work.  The day starts with prayers and devotional readings, and the rest of the day is spent in various joyous ways ranging from social gatherings to community parties.
