Sunday of Forgiveness - Cheesefare Sunday - Orthodox

The Sunday of Forgiveness is the last of the preparatory Sundays before Great Lent and it has two themes.

Firstly the day is meant to commemorate Adam's expulsion from Paradise, and celebrate the hope of re-entering Eden.

The day is also meant as a day of forgiveness, where people should forgive one another in preparation for the Lenten fast.

The fast is meant as repentance so that God can forgive the person's sins.

This day is also known as Cheesefare Sunday, because it is the last day on which the traditionally Orthodox Christians eat dairy products until Easter.
