Amavasya is new moon day in the Hindu calendar.

This is the darkest day in the


moon cycle.

People do Shradda rituals and appease the ancestors with Havan or Homa (a ritual where offerings are made into a consecrated fire).

They fast on this day and offer food to the Brahmins (wise men).
