Sheetala Ashtami

This day is dedicated to the goddess Sheetala.  It is believed that the goddess Sheetala controls diseases such as

 

smallpox, chickenpox and measles.  People worship Sheetala to ward off any outbreak of those diseases.

On this day families don't light fire for cooking.   They eat meals that were prepared on the previous day.
