National Day of Prayer USA

On this day, the first Thursday of May each year, all people of different faiths in the United States pray or the nation and its leaders. 

In 1775 the Continental Congress allocated a time for prayer in forming a new nation. 

In 1863 President Abraham Lincoln called 

for a day of prayer. 

On the 17th April 1952, President Harry Truman signed a bill proclaiming the National Day of Prayer into law in the United States. 

This law was amended by President Reagan in 1988, to designate the first Thursday of May each year as the National Day of Prayer.
