Hola Mohalla

Hola Mohalla is a Sikh festival that often falls in March and sometimes coincides with the Sikh New Year. 

This festival lasts


for a week. 

The focus is on displays of fighting prowess and bravery, followed by kirtan (call-and-response chanting), music and poetry.  The festivities end with a military-style procession. 

The first Hola Mohalla took place on 22nd February 1701 when Guru Gobend Singh oversaw a day of mock battles and poetry contests at Holgarth Fort.
