Samhain (pronounced Sah-ween) is the most significant holiday of the Celtic year.

Sunset on Samhain is the beginning of the Celtic New Year or Witches' New Year.

This is the day for wrapping up everything from the previous

year and getting ready to usher in the new energy of the New Year.  It is also a day for celebrating the memory of the ancestors.

On Samhain all sorts of ghosts, fairies and demons travel from the other world to our world.  People light bonfires to aid the dead on their journey and keep them away from the living.

It is also a day for honouring ancestors who may return for the day to offer protection and guidance for the new year.   People gather to sacrifice from their harvest.
