What is a spiritual path?  You may have outgrown your religious background and you are exploring options.  You have heard about a "spiritual path" and you want to know what it means and if it is what you are looking for.  Or you have never been religious, but you know there is more to life than meets the eye, and you want to fill that void.

Why do I feel like the odd one out? You are becoming more and more aware that you are different.  You feel different, and your beliefs and view of life have changed.  As a result you feel out of sync with the people around you.  It has become a real struggle to discuss things that really matter and your questions about your life with your nearest and dearest.  Even your friends don't understand what you are talking about.  What is happening to you?

Am I dealing with the devil? With the simplest things that you question with your religious family and friends, you are receiving warnings that you should not explore what is not familiar to them.  You understand their fear, but yo don't want to be held back by their fears and beliefs.  So who is this devil?  And how can you avoid the devil on your journey?

What if I want to turn back? Walking a spiritual path implies that you are going forward.  However , what if you don't like what you discover?  What if you would rather go back to your old beliefs which were comfortable for you?  You can - it is always an option.  Find out more on the course.

How do I deal with a non-believing partner?  Do you have a relationship with a spouse or partner who is not interested in your desire to follow a spiritual path?  What impact will this have on the relationship?  What if the strain becomes too much and the relationship ends?  What can you do to follow your heart and stay in the relationship?  To be clear, a spiritual path is not a cult.  It is a very individual path.  If there are any prescriptions that you don't agree with - in fact, if a spiritual path is sold to you as if it is full of rules that don't make sense to you, then walk away.

There is an urgency in the Western world to find means of slowing down and becoming calmer and more peaceful.

One of the commercial successes (apart from the myriad books on mindfulness) is the new rage for colouring books for adults.

Of course you will not find fairies or clowns or animals in these colouring books.  The purpose of the books is not to practice holding a crayon or staying within the lines.  The purpose of the books is to help adults relax by focusing on repeating patterns and on no particular topic.

Quite often mandalas are used in these adult colouring book.  Mandalas are complicated repetitive patterns that originated in Eastern philosophy as an attempt to make a symbolic representation of the Universe more tangible.

What Does God Think He Is Doing?

I think of myself as a kind, decent person from a good family.  I was brought up to believe in a God of love and was involved with the church when I was a kid.  My mother is a devout Christian and a beautiful person.

I know many people whom, in my opinion, don't care about God or religion but they seem to have their own way and get whatever they want.  It seems that these people have such an easy life.

About ten years ago this so-called loving God took great pleasure in ripping my family to pieces.  My father contracted a chronic illness which left him an angry, nasty man needing constant care.

My mother became his full-time nurse against her will and had to give up all her freedom.  My dad aims all his frustration at me, and my brother tries in vain to be a peace-maker.

As if that was not enough, God then decided

You Can Run, but You Cannot Hide

We like to flippantly refer to good karma and bad karma, but is there any truth in karma?  What is karma?  Can I change my karma?

My search for answers to these questions has provided me with interesting information.  For example, I have always thought of karma as Buddhism or something that is unique to Buddhism.  Since I am not an expert on this philosophy, I have kind of left it there.

But important things tend to come back to us time and again (karma?), and my curiosity was stimulated to the extent that I did some reading about Buddhism and karma.  And guess what?  I discovered that the same concept is expressed in many diverse sources, including Buddhist texts.
