What is Feng Shui?

The meaning of FENG SHUI loosely translated is

WIND and WATER, it refers to the earth, its mountains, valleys and waterways.

The practice of Feng Shui is the age-old wisdom that advocates equilibrium and symmetry with the world’s landscapes.  Their shapes and sizes, direction and levels are created by the interaction of the powerful five basic ELEMENTS:  WATER, WOOD, METAL, FIRE and EARTH

Feng Shui is about living in harmony with nature and your surroundings.  To create positive energy that works in our favour, we have to harness the Sheng Chi in the context of the trinity of heaven, earth and mankind luck. So, through the practice of Feng Shui, we can correct the disharmony in our environment and improve our immediate living and work space to allow for balance and harmony.

Feng Shui principles are applied to our environment to help ease and create a more harmonious life - one that can help us work through and understand the karma we have to work with in this lifetime.  Because every home we choose to live in is part of our Karma, it is there help us understand what we are working with.

Feng Shui, if done correctly, brings good fortune, peace, prosperity and an abundance of good luck into our everyday life.

All things on earth are categorised into the five basic elements mentioned above.  Within every element there is a negative and a positive energy (just like in us), YANG being the positive and Yin the negative.  This planet is one of polarities – up/down, left/right and so on.  A Feng Shui consultant helps you find the balance in the middle.

To better explain: within Yang is yin and within Yin is yang.  The job of a Fung Shui consultant is to help find those centre pillars to balance your home with nature.

What is Chi

CHI or energy, in some circles called grace, is invisible.  It is the powerful force that circulates and moves in and around us.  It is the life force in not only the natural environment but animals and humans as well.  In the eastern circles, it is call THE DRAGONS BREATH.  In Feng Shui, it is central to ALL understanding in FENG SHUI

In Feng Shui, we capture, create and accumulate SHENG CHI, which is positive energy, and at the same time we dissolve, reflect and destroy SHA CHI, or negative energy,

So, SHENG FENG SHUI exists where auspicious (excellent) chi gathers and accumulates. This kind of Chi brings really good fortune.  Bad Feng Shui occurs when CHI/energy becomes still and stagnant.  This can be deadly - it is called Sha Chi.

A consultant will read the SHA CHI and the Sheng Chi and help to correct and dissipate the negative to a positive.  This is very beneficial to all those living in a home that has bad chi - it will release and bring in the good luck chi.

Wind, water and the direction of chi are the three main components we look at.  This includes how the land around a home is arranged, how the flow of water moves around the home, and the direction and the time period the home exists in.

We as humans have long since not lived in harmony with the natural world.  When we acknowledge our place in the Universe, we recognize and accept that there are energies we can perceive and work with and within the environment.  We become co-workers with the Environment and with nature. A key part of this is the knowledge to co-operate, not manipulate.

Feng Shui is all about how energy moves in and around your environment.  It is also very dependent on the luck you are born with.

Heaven Luck is called Tien: this is the destiny you are born with - what we would call fate or predetermined destiny.  Only very spiritual people can change this.

Earth luck is called Ti.  It is also called human effort: this is the luck a person achieves through his personal blood sweat and tears.  It is the only aspect of a person’s destiny that can be controlled to a large extent by man himself.  Feng Shui applied here enhances man luck and reduces negative aspects.  This is given to us by Tien.

Man Luck is called REN.  It is hard work, perseverance, and determination, and the positive attitude we apply to all that we do. This has to do with what choices you make and how you live your life.  Man luck is controlled by ourselves.

Very central to all Feng Shui are the elements.  Each one of us has a Gua Number/magic number, and that number is tied up to an element and a direction.  For example, water and the shape of waves relate to the colours blue, black, turquoise - any of the water colours, and the direction is South.

The numbers 2, 5, and 8 represent Earth and the shape of a square.  The colours for Earth are brown, terracotta, cream or torp.  The important directions are North East (NE) and South West (SW).

The numbers 3 and 4 relate to Wood and the shape of an oblong or rectangle.  The important colours are all shades of green, and the directions are South East (SE) and East (E).

The numbers 6 and 7 represent Metal and the shape is round.  The colours are white, grey and metallic colours like gold and silver.  The relevant directions are West (W) and Northwest (NW).

These elements are associated with the four Cardinal directions of the Ba Gua ( the eight trigrams), which is also known as the I Ching,  whereby each trigram is associated with an element and a direction.

LAND FORMATION is very important.  We have to have a mountain behind us, a large Dragon on our left and a small tiger on our right, and a phoenix in front of us.  This means if you have a mountain or large building behind you, you will always feel supported.  If there are buildings next to your house on the left side of the front door, there will always be money. A small tiger keeps balance, while the little wall or phoenix holds your space.

To do a consultation, Zeta uses a Lou Pan which is a special type of compass.   This compass displays the Trigrams.  It also shows the directions and the different mountains that she needs to work with to help correct the home you live in.  The compass reading always get done at the front door, and this is the most important reading.  The second reading is at your stove, and the third at your bed.  Bathrooms are also very important to one’s reading and placement in the house.
